Advisory Board

The Advisory Board is an international network of experts who have agreed to give the EssentialMed Foundation meaningful help on a regular basis in many different areas, including Global Health, medical devices, technology, industry, policy, law and finance. Their abilities, experience, and knowledge were selected for how they complement a particular EssentialMed project, or the organization as a whole. The Advisory Board advises the Foundation Council in its strategic decision-making process and the Management Team in its day-to-day work.



Peter Baird

Peter Baird

Peter Baird has extensive experience in the medical products industry.

Mr. Baird served as a Principal at McKinsey & Company, where he was one of the leaders of the private-equity and healthcare practices. At McKinsey, he concentrated on serving healthcare clients on a wide range of strategic and transactional issues, with a particular focus on growth strategies and operational improvements for mid-sized medical device and pharmaceutical companies. Mr. Baird graduated from Stanford Business School with an MBA with high distinction (Arjay Miller Scholar). He holds a Master of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Cape Town, and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and in Political Theory from Bates College. Mr. Baird is a Chartered Financial Analyst.


Wido Menhardt

Wido Menhardt

Wido Menhardt is a seasoned technology executive with a passion for taking technology ideas from scratch to market, and to then scale them to volume deployment.

Mr. Menhardt is Senior Vice President and General Manager of PCCI’s Enterprise Imaging & Clinical Informatics (EICI) Business Innovation Unit.

In his earlier role as CEO of the Philips Innovation Campus (PIC) in Bangalore, India, Philips' largest product development site in Asia, he drove the development and launch of many emerging markets products, including Efficia Baby Warmers, India RIS/PACS (MDC based), IntelliSpace CCC (eICU for India), and ClearVue Ultrasound. He was also responsible for the growth of the Digital Lighting team at PIC and strengthening the focus of CL on Digital Innovation with digital product demonstrations at IFA.

He has also served as Vice-President, Engineering at Philips Healthcare Informatics, responsible for a global informatics infrastructure organization of more than 400 engineers in Silicon Valley, the Netherlands, Peru, Israel and, also, Bangalore. As CTO of his last start-up, he was responsible for a cancer detection software product from proof-of-concept to successful FDA submission in only 18 months.

Dr. Menhardt started his career at Philips medical systems in Hamburg (Germany) and Eindhoven(Netherlands) where he authored more than 50 papers in journals and at conferences on topics ranging from MRI physics to Fuzzy Logic. In his capacity as research leader he also started the highly acclaimed multi-national COVIRA project with EU funding and participation by IBM and Siemens.

Wido Menhardt holds a PhD in Computer Science from Hamburg University, and an MSc in Physics from the Technical University of Vienna.


Jean-Marie Mozzon

Jean-Marie Mozzon

Jean-Marie Mozzon brings more than 20 years of technical and managerial experience in the aerospace, biotech and medical device industry. He held several positions from design engineer to managing director in mid-size (Etel, Bienair) and multinational companies (Valtronic, Medtronic, Merck Serono). Innovative, engaged and results-driven, his leadership has been proven in managing the full product life cycle encompassing design, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, supply and global support functions.

He holds a diploma from the High Engineering School of Neuchatel (Switzerland) in electronics and a Project Management Certification (PMP) from the PMI institute.

He is now working as a medical device consultant and focusing on delivering development and manufacturing services for innovative companies.
